Is a degree from Texas State University-San Marcos respectable?
Q. I feel like I want (almost need) to live in the beautiful city of San Marcos, Texas for school, while I get my college degree. I've heard TSU offers a great education at an inexpensive cost, which is why I'm interested. I will be majoring in marketing/public communications or something related most likely. How would future employers feel about seeing Texas State University on my application? and If you schooled at Texas State University, how do you feel about the education you received?

A. Though I'm in my senior year of school, so maybe a current student prospective would help. I, too, felt like I *NEEDED* to live in San Marcos. Houston was way too much of a distraction for me with waitressing, friends, and family. My experience at larger University (don't want to say names!) was a joke with the teachers, felt like a joke, and wasn't taken seriously by anyone, ("I go to ___" "Oh..cool?") or myself. On to school number 3, please! I came to San Marcos in January 2009, and have had the best experience that I could EVER want to have. Not only are the students here super nice, my teachers are seriously the best that I've had since my elementary private school years! They sincerely care about you and your education. I guess you… [cont.]

What are some water spots in San Marcos, Texas?
Q. My family and I love the water... and we were thinking of driving to San Marcos for that. Now I know that they have the tubing thing there, and we plan to do that... but do you guys know of a place where one can have a picnic next to the river and swim at your leasure? How about a place like that near that area (San Antonio, New Braunfels, ect.)

A. All along the San Marcos River in San Marcos there are parks, the biggest is probably Sewell Park, just down the river from Joe's Crab Shack. There is ample opportunity for swimming and having a picnic. Also in New Braunfels there are many parks along both river. Be mindful that if you go to Landa Park along the Comal River, open containers of alcohol are not allowed, unless you are actually in the water. (I know, it's weird) There are also numerous campgrounds on River Road, between New Braunfels and Canyon Lake on the Guadalupe River. There are also a couple of small parks in town on the Guadalupe. Just drive around until you find one you like. Have fun.

Gary Job Corps In San Marcos Texas?
Q. Is Gary Job Corps In San Marcos Texas really a good campus to go to.Ive been hearing alot of stories. Can some one please tell what I would be expecting when I get there?

A. Let me compare apples to apples. My stepson went to Gary Job Corps 6 years ago. If you are a minority, you will get in, and fit in. If you are white, you will have to call your senator to get you into the place, because the admissions people seem to give preference to African Americans first, then Mexican Americans, and then whites only if there are no applicants from the first two categories. Once he did get in, he was scared to live on campus, because a lot of the youth there were very rough, and did not hide their hostility toward the whites. I had an adult friend who had a degree in psychology - her goal was to work with troubled youth - and worked as a counselor there. She lasted about 5 months before she left to work for Texas… [cont.]
