Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. The Texas Hill Country is a vernacular term applied to a region of Central Texas, that features rolling, somewhat rugged, hills that consist of thin soils lying on limestone. It also includes the Llano Uplift and the second largest granite monadnock in the United States, Enchanted Rock, which is located 18 miles (29 km) north of Fredericksburg. The Hill Country reaches into portions of the two major metropolitan areas of Central Texas, especially in San Antonio's northern suburbs and the western half of Travis County, ending just west of downtown Austin. The region is the eastern portion of the Edwards Plateau bounded by the Balcones Fault on the east and the Llano Uplift to the west and north. The terrain is punctuated by a large number of limestone rocks and boulders and a thin layer of topsoil, which makes the region prone to flash flooding. Several cities were settled at the base of the Balcones Escarpment, including Austin, San Marcos, and New Braunfels, as a result of springs discharging water stored in the Edwards Aquifer. Answered by John A - Mon Apr 27 17:18:44 2009 Does anyone in the Texas Hill Country have a good source for large bags of perlite? (2,3,or4 cubic feet each)? Q. I have easily acquired from 2 to 4 cubic foot bags of various grades of perlite in locations throughout North America but an associate in the Texas Hill Country is having great difficulty finding such perlite in 20 to 60 bag quantities -- or even small, large-bag quantities. (And he found it difficult to locate anything but tiny bags at retail chains.) It amazes me that in a hot and dry climate that would seem to beg for the use of perlite in lawns and golf greens would have perlite in such short supply. At first I thought he just wasn't trying hard enough in his online searches but I looked on my own and even found the wholesale agricultural buyer-and-seller-matching websites disappointing. (I would get occasional emails from… [cont.] Asked by XenonEmeritus - Sat Jun 27 05:40:43 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Hi again. If you are wanting for Perlcrete mix, then I believe you can find 4 cu/ft bags of vermiculite at a nursery on Thousand Oaks in N. San Antonio. If this doesn't work, try masonry or horticulture supply stores. If you go the HeatStop route there is a very cheap supplier just south of San Antonio.
